The project

Being the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2027 is a unique opportunity for Chile to share its diversity, its creativity and its particular way of looking at the world. This project not only seeks to show our literature, but also to open a window onto the cultural wealth of a country that unfolds between the deserts of the north, the clear skies, the southern oceans and the urban and rural landscapes that shape our everyday life.

The Road to Frankfurt is a collective effort that brings together public institutions, universities, guilds, publishing houses, authors, artists and professionals from different fields, to build an integral, innovative and representative presence. It includes literary meetings, internationalization programmes, cultural and satellite activities that cross disciplines, articulating a coherent and vibrant national narrative.

Main goals
  • Increase the translation and publication of Chilean works abroad.
  • Position Chilean literature and cultural production in international markets, with a focus on Germany.
  • Strengthen the publishing sector’s capacities for rights export and the adaptation of works into multimedia formats.
  • Showcase the diversity and potential of Chile’s creative industries.
Opportunities
  • Promote interministerial and public-private collaborations for the development of the project.
  • Strengthen translation and publishing programmes.
  • Create meeting spaces for book and culture professionals, both Chilean and international.
  • Disseminate translated works at German fairs and festivals and in other international markets.

Organization

Overall coordination is led by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, through the National Council on Books and Reading (CNLL), in collaboration with DIRAC, ProChile and the Fundación Imagen de Chile. This structure makes it possible to articulate public and private efforts, pooling resources and expertise to project a unified, high-impact presence that represents Chile in all its cultural and creative dimensions.

Looking towards Frankfurt is also looking inward: towards the diversity of our voices, towards the past that has shaped us and towards a future in which Chilean literature and culture hold a prominent place in the global dialogue. Because, like our clear skies, our literature invites us to explore, to discover and to dream big.
