On Friday, May 31, the first in a series of activities aimed at preparing Chile for its Guest of Honor participation at the 2027 Frankfurt Book Fair took place at Estación Mapocho during the 15th edition of La Furia del Libro. In an event titled “From the Clarity of Our Skies: The Country We Want to Showcase at Frankfurt 2027”, the entire publishing sector was invited to discuss the challenges and opportunities of being Guest of Honor at the world’s largest book fair. Chile will be the fourth Latin American country to present its literature and culture in Frankfurt, following the appearances of Mexico (1992), Argentina (2010), and Brazil (1994 and 2013). This invitation is significant on two levels: in addition to the heightened visibility for its literature and culture through exhibitions and a robust cultural events program, Chile’s publishing and creative industries will have the opportunity to showcase themselves to an international audience at the world’s largest book fair.
During the meeting at La Furia del Libro, the Executive Secretariat for Books and Reading, Araceli Rojas, presented the work plan that includes five axes: 1. Training: strengthen the sector's skills through training in copyright and rights selling, catalog development, brand positioning, languages, among others. 2. Studies: work together to collect data from the publishing sector, which will be useful to present the country and to make decisions about public programs and policies. 3. Networking: promote collaborations with the private sector to obtain necessary resources. 4. Editorial production: develop financing strategies for editorial projects, based on existing instruments. 5. Communication: develop a storytelling that is the basis of the work prior to 2027 and that supports actions with actors both inside and outside the book ecosystem.
