The Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage announces the opening of the 2025 call for applications for the Translation Support Line, part of the Book and Reading Fund. This initiative is aimed at national or foreign translators with an identity card issued by the Chilean Civil Registry and Identification Service, who are over 18 years of age.
This call seeks to strengthen and professionalize the work of Chilean translators, with the aim of positioning Chile as a hub for translations from other languages into Spanish. It includes full or partial funding for the translation into Spanish of works originally written in other languages, by Chilean or foreign authors. Translations must be carried out by Chilean or foreign translators residing in Chile who have an excellent command of Spanish.
Who can apply: Natural persons of Chilean or foreign nationality with an identity card issued by the Chilean Civil Registry and Identification Service, over 18 years of age.
Eligible works: The works to be translated may be in print or digital format, fiction or non-fiction, of any genre. They must have been previously published in a foreign language and must not have been translated before.
Project execution period: Projects must begin during 2025, from the date indicated in the application, and may run for a maximum of 18 months.
Budget: The call will fund up to CLP $4,000,000 per project for translation services (including personnel and operational costs). Translation services may include: proofreading, style editing, and copy editing. These services must be carried out either by the translator or by a team made up of translators, editors, and proofreaders, among other specialists whose roles ensure the successful completion of the project. The acquisition of rights for the original work to be translated is not covered.
