International round tables: reading trends in other territories and the Chilean book in Frankfurt 2027

On 29 and 30 May, two round tables brought together leading international publishers to discuss reading trends in different territories and the place of Chilean literature in the global landscape.
On Thursday 29, the first round table, “Reading trends in other territories (I)”, featured four publishers from three continents: Simon Lörsch (Suhrkamp, Germany), Diven Nagpal (Seagull Books, India), Maíra Nassif (Relicário, Brazil) and Amy Hundley (Grove Atlantic Press, United States).
Moderated by Chilean translator Pola Iriarte, the panellists analysed what reading audiences are like in their respective countries, the channels that influence reading choices and the challenges Chilean publishers face ahead of Frankfurt 2027 in bringing new and unknown literature to a global audience.
On Friday 30, the second round table, “Reading trends in other territories (II)”, featured Linus Guggenberger (Wagenbach, Germany), Silvia Naschenveng (Mundaréu, Brazil), Ranya Bakr (Al Arabi, Egypt) and Guillermo Camacho (Aurora Boreal, Denmark).
Also moderated by Pola Iriarte, this session focused on literary preferences in the countries represented, the share of translated literature and the mechanisms for recommending books and authors from other languages. The publishers also shared their expectations of Latin American literature, and of Chilean literature in particular, and discussed strategies for bringing Chilean authors and titles to new international audiences.
These round tables offer a valuable insight into the international dynamics of the publishing market and highlight the importance of innovating and connecting Chilean literature with readers around the world.
