Ministry of Cultures held a publishing and audiovisual professional meeting as part of On the Road to Frankfurt 2027

As part of the On the Road to Frankfurt 2027 process, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage held a series of professional meetings in May aimed at strengthening the internationalisation of the Chilean publishing and audiovisual sectors, as part of Chile’s preparation as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2027.
This was the third edition of these meetings, which have become key milestones in the preparations for the world’s most important book fair.
“The professional publishing meeting and the working day held at the Palacio Pereira were an important sign of what the road to Frankfurt 2027 means: a broad call that brings together the publishing ecosystem, public institutions and various strategic players around a national project,” said Nicolás Leyton, Executive Director of the Chile in Frankfurt 2027 project. He added: “The presence of international publishers and their dialogue with more than sixty Chilean publishers opens concrete opportunities for the circulation of our literature and reinforces the purpose of this participation: to project Chile on the world’s leading publishing stage. Frankfurt is an exceptional platform to give visibility to our authors and publishers, as well as to other cultural industries that also have a place in this process, such as film, music, dance, theatre, visual arts and architecture, among others.”
On 28 and 29 May, as part of the Furia del Libro book fair, business rounds (matchmaking) were held at the Estación Mapocho. The event brought together 8 international publishers from Germany, Sweden, Brazil, the Netherlands, Austria, the United States, Canada and India with more than 60 Chilean publishers and agents, in one-to-one working meetings arranged according to editorial affinities and interests. The aim was to open concrete opportunities for translation, rights exchange and publishing collaboration between Chile and the international market.
The participating international publishers — including Peter Hammer Verlag (Germany), Princeton University Press (USA), House of Anansi Press (Canada) and Jadavpur University Press (India) — showed particular interest in contemporary literary fiction, graphic novels, children’s literature, and historical and critical non-fiction from Chile.
In parallel, a matchmaking session was also held between the publishing sector and the Chilean audiovisual industry to explore opportunities for adapting literary works and broaden the channels for the international projection of Chilean content.
On 29 May, at the Palacio Pereira, a working day entitled “Chile in Frankfurt 2027: challenges and opportunities” took place. The meeting brought together representatives of the Frankfurter Buchmesse and key players from various Chilean institutions, in a space aimed at strengthening the institutional dimension of the project and advancing strategic decisions ahead of 2027.
The event was attended by the Minister of Cultures, Francisco Undurraga, together with Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, and Marifé Boix García, Vice President of the fair, who took part in the discussions on the progress of Chile’s preparations and the guidelines for the programme Chile will present in October 2027.
