Ministry of Cultures to hold the Chile–Germany Professional Meeting as part of the “Chile on the Road to Frankfurt 2027” programme

From 22 to 26 November, the Chile–Germany Professional Meeting will take place as part of the Chile on the Road to Frankfurt 2027 programme, an initiative that paves the way for our country's participation as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2027. The meeting aims to strengthen dialogue, cooperation and networking between publishers, agents and book professionals from both countries, and to promote the internationalisation of the Chilean book sector.

“Since we took on the challenge of being Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2027, we have charted a course strongly linked to the professionalisation of our ecosystem and to building networks that can sustain both our presence two years from now and the future challenges that may arise for the internationalisation of the Chilean book. The activities we will carry out over these days are precisely along those lines, aiming to strengthen the skills of our sector and create synergies with both national and international actors,” said Aracelly Rojas Vallet, Executive Secretary of the National Council for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.

The German delegation will consist of six representatives of the publishers Edition Orient, Matthes & Seitz Berlin, KLAK Verlag, Arco Verlag, Kupido Verlag and Reprodukt, together with illustration rights agent Paula Peretti and cultural journalist Eva-Christina Meier. They will be joined by representatives of the Frankfurter Buchmesse: Marifé Boix García (Vice President of Business Development for Southern Europe and Latin America) and Simone Bühler (Head of Guest of Honour Programme).

As part of the organisation of the Chile on the Road to Frankfurt 2027 programme, the Goethe-Institut has joined as a strategic partner in this process. This alliance will strengthen bilateral cooperation between Chile and Germany, driving joint projects, cultural and curatorial exchanges, and mediation activities that will accompany the preparation of Chile's presence as Guest of Honour at one of the largest book trade fairs in the world.

“For the Goethe-Institut it is extremely important to establish and strengthen these professional and cultural ties ahead of Chile's participation as Guest of Honour in Frankfurt 2027. It is an honour to collaborate with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage in bringing a German delegation of publishers and literary experts who can connect with key actors in Chile. Having professionals of the calibre of Eva-Christina Meier or Paula Peretti in the country, able to see, understand and appreciate Chile's literary, artistic and cultural ecosystem, will undoubtedly greatly benefit Chile's experience in Frankfurt in 2027 and help build relationships that we hope will last over time,” said the director of the Goethe-Institut Chile, Verena Lehmkuhl.

The professional meeting and the work towards Frankfurt 2027 are being carried out in close collaboration with ProChile, the Division of Cultures, Arts, Heritage and Public Diplomacy (DIRAC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and various institutions and organisations of the book and cultural ecosystem, including La Furia del Libro, the Cámara Chilena del Libro, the Corporación del Libro y la Lectura, Editoriales de Chile, the Centro Cultural La Moneda, the Biblioteca Nacional de Chile, Chile Cómic, the Cooperativa de Narrativa Gráfica Chilena and the Cooperativa Gráfica Chilena.
