“Chile, on the road to Frankfurt 2027” will have a Cultural Programme and opens an International Performing Arts Co-production call

The open call will select one project to develop a co-production process with Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Germany, as part of the cultural programme of Chile as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2027.
As part of Chile’s participation as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2027, a process led by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, the country will have a Cultural Programme that seeks to project Chilean artistic creation internationally through an interdisciplinary programme promoting the circulation of artists and works, cultural exchange and the strengthening of collaboration networks with international institutions and stakeholders.
The programme includes around 25 activities and cultural programming events, including exhibitions, concerts, festivals, residencies, co-productions, audiovisual activities, professional meetings and cultural mediation initiatives. It also expects the participation of more than 100 Chilean artists, companies, musicians, cultural managers and professionals during its implementation, including Chileans living abroad, through the various open calls and curatorial processes led by the Ministry and venues in Germany.
“The cultural programme we intend to present in Frankfurt is proof that this fair, and the guest-of-honour invitation Chile received, is a broad call to different creative sectors and not exclusively to the world of books. It is an opportunity for Chile to be at the centre of the artistic conversation across its most diverse disciplines and to be present in different cultural centres and museums, mainly in Frankfurt but also in other German cities,” said Nicolás Leyton, Executive Director of the Chile in Frankfurt 2027 project.
The agenda includes collaborations with cultural institutions, festivals and strategic venues in Germany, among them: Romanfabrik, DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt, the Berlin International Film Festival, HKW – Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the Berlin Conservatory, LICHTER Filmfest, Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, Antagon/Protagon, MOMEM, Schirn Kunsthalle, FFF — Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, Weltkulturen Museum, DAM – Deutsches Architekturmuseum and the Instituto Cervantes. The cultural programme is coordinated by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage in close collaboration with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DIRAC), the Embassy of Chile in Germany and the Goethe-Institut in Chile, key partners in designing the programme, selecting artists, developing content and bringing it to life.
The Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, through the Executive Secretariat for the Performing Arts, is opening the International Performing Arts Co-production – Frankfurt 2027 call, an initiative aimed at strengthening the internationalisation of Chilean stage creation through artistic cooperation and exchange between Chile and Germany.
The call will select one project to develop a co-production process with Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm in Germany, as part of the Cultural Programme of “Chile, Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2027”. The initiative provides CLP 50 million in funding and a working stay of up to 20 days in Frankfurt.
In this context, the performing arts will be present through various collaboration and outreach actions with institutions and stakeholders of the German cultural ecosystem. This call is part of that process and will select an international performing arts co-production project with Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm, a centre for contemporary creation in Frankfurt devoted to theatre, dance, performance and interdisciplinary projects.
The selected project must begin between 2 and 13 November 2026 and will have a working stay of up to 20 days in Frankfurt to develop the co-production. Mousonturm will provide infrastructure, equipment and spaces for rehearsals, creation, meetings, performances and artistic exchange, as well as artistic and technical support throughout the process.
The co-production will also involve a binational team, incorporating artists and/or professionals chosen by Mousonturm according to the characteristics and needs of the proposal.
As part of its development in Germany, the project must give at least two public performances in Frankfurt and hold two mediation, exchange or dialogue activities with audiences, cultural agents or professionals. It must also hold an in-person knowledge-transfer activity in Chile to share the process and results of the international experience.
One of the central aims of the call is for the co-production to go beyond performances in Germany and generate long-term ties, new professional networks and opportunities for international circulation and collaboration.
The evaluation will therefore give special weight to the artistic and conceptual quality of the proposals and their relevance to the Frankfurt 2027 curatorial concept, together with their feasibility, the team’s track record and capabilities, and their potential impact and international reach.
Chilean legal entities under public or private law, for-profit or non-profit, may apply with projects in theatre, dance, circus, puppetry, oral storytelling, opera and interdisciplinary performing arts. Teams may have up to eight members.
To support applicants, an online training session will be held on Monday 7 September at 16:00 at www.fondosdecultura.cl; it will be recorded and remain available on the same platform.
Applications open until 28 September 2026.
